This week’s newsletter was written under the shadow of a tree. I’ve been spending more time around parks rather than on my phone. It’s making me feel so much better. There’s a simple joy in trees. I like to imagine this tree has borne witness to multiple people like me.

What inspired me this week:

The Strokes (Live in Concert)

The Strokes are one of my favourite bands ever. When I saw them live, I felt incredible. Someday and You Only Live Once sounded magical live. During the encore, Nikolai hopped off stage to the barrier. The GA line was definitely worth it.

Another World dir. Tommy Ng Kai-Chung

Excellent imagery!! Zen and I gasped at one point at a shocking twist. Don’t let the cutesy design fool you; this film goes darker than what you would expect.

Mad Bills to Pay dir. Joel Alfonso Vargas

This film follows Rico, who tries and fails and tries to step up for his soon-to-be child. His youthful arrogance transcends all of his actions, which leads to a striking cautionary tale. The scenes of Bronx citizens milling around were a welcome break from his antics.

Soundbath yoga

Zen invited me to this yoga that she wanted to try out. I have been curious about soundbaths since Annie showed a video of it before. I also heard that Addison Rae does it before every concert. The whole yoga class was slower than usual and focused on the sounds. It took me a while to get up because of how relaxed I had become.

Tawa Collective

Arianna and I saw a variety show with an all-Filipino cast. It was one of the few events where I was of average height.
